Derby Book Festival 2017 – School Children’s Short Stories

A book I illustrated in 2017 for Derby Book Festival. The stories were written by local school children with diverse backgrounds from countries all over the world. It was a really lovely project to be part of. I sketched the drawings on the iPad Pro in Procreate then when the children were happy with them, I illustrated them in Photoshop with a Wacom Cintiq.

What the client said

Mair has been a tremendous support to the Festival, creating charming illustrations for a book of stories written by students at Bemrose School.  Mair was fantastic throughout – not only did she agree to do the work at short notice, fitting us into her very busy schedule, but she also suggested using the children’s ideas and descriptions of the characters they had created to inform her work. The children were thrilled, we all loved the results, and it was a pleasure to work with her.
