Hello, I’m Mair and I’ve been making pictures since I could hold a crayon but I’ve been running my animation and illustration business full time since 2011.
I’ve always been interested in telling stories, sharing knowledge and problem solving through images. I absolutely love what I do and after a few years, I’m still excited to wake each day to begin creating.
I’m a hands on, independent creative business owner. So I’m experienced with idea generation, script writing, storyboarding, art direction, character design, illustration, animation production and all the project management, communication and organisational stuff that goes with that.
Not only do I thoroughly enjoy working on the artistic, technical and management parts of projects but clients are able to deal directly with the creative person producing their project.
You may notice that in my portfolio, many of my projects are for social or environmental causes. I love the idea that public awareness can be raised and positive change can be made through visual storytelling. I’ve won some awards related to this too.
On occasion I hire other talented, local folk on a per project basis. Sometimes for animation assistance but mostly for voice overs, music production and sound effects.
Contact me if you’d like to talk over your project or just to say hello.
I also have an FAQ and career advice page that might be of interest.
In 2018 I was interviewed on the “Get Work Savvy” podcast and the “Motion Hatch” podcast about my animation and illustration business. If you’d like to hear more about my career path and how I established my company, you can listen either via the links in a browser or by searching on your podcast app.
How do you pronounce your name?
"Mair" is a Welsh form of Mary and it's pronounced "My - ah". My Grandpa was Welsh and my family has a lot of Celtic named members. We often joke that our family gatherings sound like a Lord of the Rings council meeting.
I set up my business as Mair Perkins but then I married my wonderful partner, Callum, and wanted to adopt his surname. For simplicity and consistency I still lead my professional life as Mair Perkins. Feel free to call me by Perkins or Bain!
