mair_perkinsBack in 2012 I set up my company specialising in 2D animation, motion graphics and illustration. I work with a small team of local creatives on animation projects but I still do the creative work on every project as well as project management. Not only do I thoroughly enjoy working on the artistic parts of projects but my clients are able to deal directly with the creative person producing their animation or illustrations.

I bring creative ideas, technical ability, project management skills and a personal, friendly, reliable approach to all projects.

I don’t just make pictures, I work with you to find out what your visual communication needs are and work with you to create a brief then meet that brief to solve your design problem.

I also occasionally teach and lecture on animation so I’m pretty good at explaining things.

Contact me if you’d like to talk over your project or just to say hello.

I've been hooked on making pictures since I was old enough to hold a pencil. So I followed an art education route up to University where I specialised in Visual Communication (Animation) BA Hons.

I graduated in 2009 and found a job as a graphic designer. Whilst working I studied for a Masters Degree in Animation and began freelancing. I went full time freelance in late 2011 after completing my Masters degree and within a few months, I set up my company, Mair Perkins Ltd.

Since 2012 my business has grown and I work with a local team of creatives on projects and share a coworking office space with other creative and tech business owners in Derby. Since 2015 I have also been teaching animation for a certified Adobe Software training provider and in 2016 I became an associate animation lecturer at the University of Derby.

I was born in the Hampshire, England. I lived in Auckland, New Zealand for 2 years when I was a child. After New Zealand I lived in County Durham, England until I moved to Derby, England for University in 2006.

I currently live in Derby with my husband and four cats. When I'm not animating or illustrating, I'll be either reading, playing video games, running, at the gym, binge watching films and TV shows or playing with cats. I also love to travel and always take a sketchbook to record my adventures.

Check out my Las Vegas wedding and USA Road Trip blog.

How do you pronounce your name?

"Mair" is a Welsh form of Mary and it's pronounced "My - ah". My Grandpa was Welsh and my family has a lot of Celtic named members. We often joke that our family gatherings sound like a Lord of the Rings council meeting.

I set up my business as Mair Perkins but then I married my wonderful partner, Callum, and wanted to adopt his surname. For simplicity and consistency I still lead my professional life as Mair Perkins. Feel free to call me by Perkins or Bain!
