The Metamaterial Plasmonic Tongue – How Does It Work?

The University of Glasgow and the UK Metamaterials Network commissioned this animated video to communicate the research work and inspire more public interest in metamaterials and their applications.

This video shows how plasmonic arrays of gold nanoparticles can be used for quality control of liquids such as, in this case, whiskey. The work described in this video was undertaken by Prof. Alasdair Clark from the University of Glasgow.

A mix of 2D and 3D animation was used for this project while maintaining the same colourful, vector, cel shaded visual style.

What the client said

Mair was excellent in describing her process, understanding the work / message we wanted to convey and producing a brilliant animation. Her openness to taking suggestions and incorporating them made this an easy and enjoyable project to work on. In the end, thanks to Mair's talent and creativity, we received a final product that we're delighted with! We will definitely be looking to work with Mair for our future animation needs.
