This was made for the anti-fur documentary film “Skin Trade” directed by Shannon Keith an animal rights lawyer and CEO of Uncaged films.

The brief

The first brief was to create a title sequence that starts at an atomic level and gradually zooms out to the fur of an animal. The second was to create animation clips featuring Disney style animal characters to insert throughout the documentary film. The documentary contains disturbing graphic imagery and the animation serves as a positive and uplifting element to break up the film.

The process

Shannon sent me the script to generate storyboards and character designs from. After the film crew had reviewed them and provided feedback, I began producing the animation. As the film was being produced in Los Angeles and I am based in the UK, I sent regular updates of the animation’s progress via YouSendIt. The Uncaged film crew gave me feedback and requested amendments as the work progressed.

The result

The final animation was sent to the editing team in HD quality who then used in the finished film. Skin Trade went on to win multiple awards and was screened at film festivals around the world whilst raising awareness of the cruel fur trade and encouraging viewers to boycott the industry.

What the client said

Mair has been absolutely AMAZING to work with. I had never met Mair and did not know her before I hired her, so I was hoping it would be a good experience. She exceeded all of my expectations with her professionalism, promptness, and even better, creativity and amazing animation skills. Mair bring a unique flair to animation rarely seen today. I have no doubt that Mair’s contribution led to our film winning multiple festival awards. I will definitely hire her again.
